Malta’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister Ian Borg announced that a flight from Qatar to Berlin will be bringing back up to 26 Maltese citizens stranded during the ongoing war in Iran. Yesterday, in the early hours of the morning up to 187 Maltese citizens arrived from an Airbus flight from Dubai Airport of the United Arab Emirates.
Foreign tourists and visitors who lost their flights and remained stranded in Qatar and the Untied Araba Emirates had their hotels paid by the host-country while European governments scrambled to arrange for flights and seats for their stranded citizens. The Maltese government has covered the cost of the repatriation flights.
Not all Maltese citizens decided to come back with some deciding to stay. The war in Iran and in the Gulf region is ongoing.
Flights from Dubai are also operating at a reduced rate according to Emirates airlines.
