Balzan tightened their grip on top spot in the BOV Challenge League Top Eight after defeating Fgura United 2-1 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Matchday 18.
Balzan struck early when Awosanya Oluwale converted a sixth-minute penalty after being fouled inside the area. The leaders doubled their advantage just before the break when a rebound deflected off Jake Portelli and into the net. Sergio Mosquera pulled one back for Fgura deep into stoppage time, but Balzan held firm to secure another important win that strengthens their promotion bid.
In another key Top Eight clash, Swieqi United and Birลผebbuฤกa St Peterโs shared the spoils in an entertaining 2-2 draw at the Centenary Stadium. Birลผebbuฤกa raced into a two-goal lead through Charles Chibuike and Duvan Mosquera, but Swieqi fought back thanks to a stunning strike from Kian Leonardi before the same player converted a late penalty to rescue a point.
Elsewhere, Pietร Hotspurs stunned promotion contenders Melita with a 1-0 victory, courtesy of a well-taken goal by James Brincat early in the second half.
Meanwhile, Sirens produced a commanding performance to beat St Andrews 3-0, with Joel Quist, Trezeguet Zammit (penalty) and a late own goal sealing the victory.
Play-Out
In the Play-Out section, Mgarr United strengthened their position at the top after defeating ลปebbuฤก Rangers 2-0, with Christyan Noto scoring twice.
Marsa and Gudja United played out a thrilling 3-3 draw, with both teams exchanging goals throughout the match, while Vittoriosa Stars snatched a dramatic late 1-1 draw against Santa Lucia thanks to a stoppage-time strike from Julius Babatola.
Finally, ลปurrieq secured a solid 2-0 win over Mtarfa through goals from Gabriel Aquilina and Leonard Londe, a result that confirmed Mtarfaโs relegation to the Amateur League.
