A man who had travelled to Malta for an internship and was reported missing earlier this year has been identified as the individual whose body was discovered at St George’s Bay.
Police confirmed on Sunday that the body found in January at St George’s Bay in St Julian’s is that of Samiel Daroussi, a 30-year-old French national. His identity was established following the completion of the necessary tests.
According to earlier police reports, the body was spotted at around 1:00am on January 18. Authorities indicated that the man had been deceased for several days, with the body found in an advanced state of decomposition.
A magisterial inquiry, along with ongoing police investigations, remains in progress.
Daroussi, originally from Mayotte — a French overseas territory near Madagascar — had arrived in Malta in early December to undertake a three-month internship as part of the Erasmus+ programme. The placement was linked to his training as a technician and aimed to help him improve his English.
He was last seen on January 2 at his apartment in Sliema, where, according to reports, all his personal belongings were left behind. Concerns were raised after several days passed without any contact with him.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the case.
