Seven Maltese clubs have been awarded a UEFA club licence, enabling them to participate in UEFA club competitions.
Introduced in 2004, the UEFA club licensing system sets out a series of requirements that clubs must meet in order to compete at European level. Over the years, it has become an important tool for improving governance, financial stability and long-term development within clubs, while also forming part of national associationsโ broader strategic objectives.
Six of the licensed Maltese clubs competing in the menโs game are Birkirkara FC, Floriana FC, Gลผira United FC, ฤฆamrun Spartans FC, Marsaxlokk FC and Valletta FC.
The seventh licence has been awarded to Mฤกarr United FC Womenโs Team, who are set to represent Malta in the UEFA Womenโs Champions League during the 2026/27 season.
