Branko Nisevic set to take charge at Sliema Wanderers

Branko Nisevic is set to become the new head coach of Sliema Wanderers after reaching an agreement in principle with the club.

The Serbian tactician has emerged as the preferred choice for the Wanderers following a disappointing 2025-26 campaign, with club officials hoping he can lead the team back to competitiveness.

Despite major investment during last summerโ€™s transfer window, Sliema endured an underwhelming season. The Blues lost the Jubilee Cup final, suffered a shock FA Trophy defeat to Swieqi United, and failed to mount a serious title challenge after finishing in the Bottom Six during the Closing Round.

The club parted ways with coach Paul Zammit midway through the season, appointing Pablo Doffo on an interim basis until the end of the campaign. However, the Wanderers have now opted to bring in a permanent replacement.

Nisevic became available after leaving Hibernians in March, and discussions with Sliema officials have intensified in recent days, culminating in an agreement on Wednesday.

However, sources indicated that the deal cannot be formally completed until the club elects a new committee during its Annual General Meeting, scheduled for the first week of June.

Meanwhile, Doffo officially confirmed his departure on Thursday, expressing gratitude to the club for the opportunity.

โ€œMy journey with Sliema has come to an end and I would like to sincerely thank everyone at the club for the opportunity, the trust, and the support from day one. It has been a privilege to be part of such a historic club,โ€ Doffo said.

He also thanked the technical staff, committee members, and players, praising their commitment and unity throughout the season.

โ€œI leave with nothing but respect, gratitude, and great memories. Wishing the club and everyone involved nothing but success for the future,โ€ he added.
