MSE rallies to new 52-week high driven by banks, real-estate, Farsons, MIA and MedservRegis

The Malta Stock Exchange has extended its rally in 2026, with the MSE Equity Total Return Index rising from 8,903.51 points at the end of 2025 to 9,626.126 points today, an increase of around 8.1% since the start of the year. Earlier this week, the index touched 9,641.433 points, its official 52-week high.

This is the strongest level registered on the Maltese stock market over the past year and continues the broader rally in both local and international equities. The surge comes amid renewed bullish momentum across global financial markets, with major US stock indices also reaching fresh record highs earlier this week.

The local rally has been driven mainly by renewed buying in banks, property-linked companies and selected blue-chip names. The sharpest recent move came during the week ending 8 May, when the MSE Equity Total Return Index jumped 1.9% to close at 9,628.173 points, with 30 equities active, 13 gainers, nine fallers, and total equity turnover of โ‚ฌ2.2 million across 243 deals.

APS Bank rose 5.7% during that week to close at โ‚ฌ0.56, its highest level in more than six months, after stronger quarterly results improved sentiment toward the stock. Lombard Bank also advanced 5.4%, closing at โ‚ฌ0.78, while FIMBank surged 18.5% to $0.16, albeit on much lower volumes. Bank of Valletta remained one of the marketโ€™s most liquid equities, even though its share price slipped 1.9% to โ‚ฌ2.06.

Hili Properties was one of the standout movers earlier this year, rising 12.5% in February to close at โ‚ฌ0.27, with high volume in share trading after the company forced minority shareholders to sell back their shares. The Malta Stock Exchangeโ€™s own latest trading statistics show Hili Properties as the most actively traded equity by 90-day average daily value traded, ahead of BOV and MIA.

The rally was not limited to banks and property-names. Simonds Farsons Cisk rose 15.9% in the week ending 8 May to close at โ‚ฌ6.20, while Malta International Airport also traded at โ‚ฌ6.20, gaining 0.8% that week on strong volume. MIA remains one of the most liquid equities on the exchange and has been supported by continued strength in tourism and passenger traffic.

MedservRegis has been one of the strongest performers over the longer term. The Malta Stock Exchange currently lists MedservRegis as up 70% over one year, making it the second-best one-year performer after Loqus Holdings. With the share price now around โ‚ฌ0.68, MedservRegisโ€™ market value has increased by roughly โ‚ฌ22 million to โ‚ฌ24 million from previous levels.

The marketโ€™s strength also follows a powerful February rally, when the MSE Equity Total Return Index gained 4.2% in one month to close at 9,246.17 points. During that month, BOV gained 9.4%, APS gained 6.3%, HSBC Malta rose 2.8%, MIA gained 1.7%, and Farsons advanced 6.9%.
