Transport Malta urges motorists to avoid Lija, Pieta’ and Qormi due to accidents

Transport Malta on Wednesday urged motorists to avoid several major roads in Lija, Pietร  and Qormi after three separate traffic accidents caused significant disruption within the space of just three hours.

The first incident occurred at around 5.30am near the Lija roundabout when a DAF truck carrying gravel overturned.

Although no injuries were reported, the crash resulted in diesel and oil spilling onto the road surface, leading to traffic congestion in the area.

Shortly afterwards, another accident took place near Sa Maison in Pietร , where a car overturned and partially blocked the carriageway leading towards Msida.

A third collision was reported at around 8.30am on Mdina Road in Qormi, close to the Kia showroom, involving a motorcycle and a coach travelling southbound.

Motorists reported long tailbacks stretching as far back as Rabat as traffic built up following the incidents.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported in any of the three accidents.

Transport Malta appealed to drivers to exercise caution, follow instructions from officials on site and, where possible, use alternative routes until the affected roads are cleared.
