Malta had another record-breaking month for tourist arrivals according to the latest NSO figures, with inbound tourists in April reaching 409,403, an increase of 16.6% over the same month last year.

The latest figures published by the National Statistics Office show that April continued the record pace already registered in the first months of the year. In April 2025, Malta had received 351,165 inbound tourists, meaning that this yearโ€™s figure represents an increase of more than 58,000 tourists in just one month.

Total nights spent by tourists also increased, reaching 2,130,733 nights, up by 6.1% over April last year. Tourist expenditure reached โ‚ฌ335 million, an increase of 13.1% over the corresponding month in 2025.

The average length of stay stood at 5.2 nights, while the average expenditure per night was estimated at โ‚ฌ157.2.

Most tourists came to Malta for holiday purposes, with the NSO estimating that 383,664 inbound tourists visited for holidays, while 20,724 came for business. The largest share of tourists was made up of people aged between 25 and 44, followed by those aged between 45 and 64.

British, Italian and Polish residents remained the largest source markets, making up 45.9% of total inbound tourists.

Gozo and Comino also continued to benefit from the increase in tourism. The number of tourists visiting Gozo and Comino, including both same-day and overnight visitors, reached 227,162, equivalent to 55.5% of total tourists.

The January-April figures show that Maltaโ€™s tourism industry is once again heading towards another record year. Inbound tourists in the first four months of 2026 amounted to 1,215,966, an increase of 16.4% over the same period last year.

Total nights spent during the first four months of the year reached 6.6 million, up by 10%, while total tourist expenditure was estimated at โ‚ฌ919.7 million, 14.3% higher than that recorded during the same period in 2025.

However, expenditure per capita declined from โ‚ฌ770 in 2025 to โ‚ฌ756 this year, showing that while Malta is receiving more tourists and generating more overall expenditure, spending per tourist has decreased slightly.
