San Giljan clinch Knockout Trophy for the Second Time

San Giljan have secured the Women’s Waterpolo Knockout Cup for the second time in their history after defeating Sirens 22–16 in a high-scoring final. The result marked the very first defeat for Sirens across all competitions in 2026.

Elena Borg turned in a masterclass performance for San Giljan, finishing as the match protagonist with a stunning 10-goal haul. E. Uruna heavily supported the offensive charge with 6 goals, while Ella Miceli, Marierose Tully, and Shanice Cassar each contributed 2 goals to seal the silverware.

Sirens fought hard despite suffering their first loss of the year. Martha Perici Ferrante led their scoring with 6 goals, followed by Kaia Agius with 4 goals, and Chloe Amato with 3. Elisa Amato, E. Pirat, and Nevise Agius scored 1 goal apiece.

San Giljan booked their place in the final by overcoming a tough Sliema side 17–14, handing Sliema their second defeat of the tournament. Elena Borg was once again lethal in front of the net, scoring 7 goals. Marierose Tully and E. Uruna both scored hat-tricks with 3 goals each, while Abby Bonello, Thea Saliba, Ella Miceli, and Shanice Cassar scored 1 goal each.

Sliema’s efforts were spearheaded by V. Baska, who netted 5 goals. Sophie Camilleri secured a hat-trick, while Yara Bonnett, Elaya Schembri, and Kaylern Cutajar scored 2 goals each. Francesca Paolella rounded out the scoring with a single goal.

Earlier in the tournament, Sirens started their Knockout campaign in style with an easy 21–13 victory over Sliema. Both teams featured an international foreign player in their lineups.

Kaia Agius and E. Pirat paced Sirens with 5 goals each. Chloe Amato struck 4 times, while Zaira Bartolo and Martha Perici Ferrante scored 2 goals each. Eyla Montfort, Elisa Amato, and Kendra Navarro scored 1 goal each.

For Sliema, Sophie Camilleri registered a hat-trick. Nadja Azzopardi, Francesca Paolella, Elaya Schembri, and V. Baska scored 2 goals each, while Lisa Fenech and Holly Camilleri chipped in with 1 goal each.
