MIA continues share buybacks but remains far short of its original target

Malta International Airport plc (MIA) renewed shareholder authorisation for its share buyback programme at the 34th Annual General Meeting held on Wednesday, 20 May 2026.

The company originally launched its first-ever share buyback programme in June 2025, following approval at the 33rd AGM on 14 May 2025. The renewed authorisation maintains the same parameters: up to 1,353,000 ordinary shares (representing approximately 1% of the company’s issued share capital of 135,300,000 shares), at prices ranging from a minimum of €3.00 to a maximum of €7.38 per share. This equates to a theoretical maximum aggregate consideration of approximately €10 million. Shares repurchased under the programme are cancelled, reducing the company’s issued share capital.

As at 31 December 2025, MIA had repurchased 59,538 shares for a total of €353,637 (weighted average price of €5.94 per share). Of these, 50,404 shares repurchased up to 30 November 2025 were cancelled. The company has purchased approximately 100,000–120,000 shares for a total expenditure in the region of around €600,000–€750,000 and is still short of its original target of up to 1.35 million in shares which would amount to around €10 million in value.
