€57,000 a year Minister donates €30,000 to Luqa Church

Economy Minister Silvio Schembri has been known for a while to have hidden sources of income as he rapidly expanded his wealth while in politics. His wife has also become involved in the real-estate and construction business.

Before entering politics, the Minister barely ever had more than €2,000 in his bank account and had to depend on his friends for drinks when going out in weekends (I was there).

Recently, he donated €30,000 to Parish Church of Luqa. He announced his donation during Mass: an unprecedented scene in Malta where Mass is supposedly non-political and a moment of unity for the Catholic brethren.

His salary is €57,000 per annum.

This is probably the first ever documented instance where Mass has been used as a political platform for the propaganda of the Labour Party and its politicians.

    Unbelievable!! Kieku l knisja ma taccettax flus mil hmieg!! Ma baqax misthija!! Dal bniedem hu l istess wiehed li ta 15 l miljun lil sid ta showroom biex attaparsi jikri kmamar bhala ufficini! Ara ghal min jivvota l poplu!!

    This guy is all fake smiles and good boy behaviour. In reality, he thinks he is some kind of cowboy, and a typical “tough guy”. And I am not just saying this.

    I wouldn’t trust this guy as far as I could throw him.

    But that’s the Maltese for you: give them a couple of clearly dishonest smiles, and then laugh your way to the bank behind their back as they sheepishly bow and worship the new idol. God forbid one says anything bad about the real patron saint.

    No amount of preaching will change this mentality. One needs to be properly educated, and from an early age.

    And if he doesn’t get his way in something, even if it’s trivial and especially if he thinks it hurts his “PR” and “image” see him huff and puff, sulk and brood.

    So much for the altruist persona. But again, people swallow the facade as if it were honey.

    Minister – render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s.
    The arrogance and cheek of these servant representatives of the people, who pile up unexplained wealth and try to launder it together with their pit bottom reputation by using the Church of Christ, is unbelievable.
    The poor priest who was surely caught unaware, should have recalled, and copied Christ casting out the merchant brigand from the temple.
