Having taken Manoel Island back from MIDI, the government is choosing to continue MIDI’s plan to install a permanent yacht marina on Manoel Island. The Prime Minister, who owns a yacht himself, is being accused by Jason Azzopardi of being behind the project.
Jason Azzopardi is accusing the Prime Minister of planning to hand this project over in advance to one of his friends.
The plan to install a yacht marina has already been criticised by NGOs that previously fought for Manoel Island to be returned to the public.
The government intends to issue a call for tenders.
The Planning Authority has already approved a commercial site that was built illegally on the island, and the government now plans to cede more parts of the island to private interests. However, the Prime Minister said that there will be no construction on the island.
