A 57-year-old man who had been reported missing earlier on Sunday was found dead in a field in the Bulebel area at around 5.30pm.
The discovery was made while intensive searches were under way for Eusebio Abela, who had been reported missing earlier in the day.
The man was later identified as Abela and was certified dead at the scene.
The police have ruled out the involvement of third parties.
Magistrate Philip Galea Farrugia was informed of the case and has ordered an inquiry, while police investigations are continuing.
