Zea Montfort has made history for Maltese artistic swimming after finishing sixth in the Women’s Solo Free Final at the World Junior Artistic Swimming Championships.
Montfort produced an outstanding performance to score 239.3413 points, recording both the highest score and highest placing ever achieved by Malta in artistic swimming at this level.
Her sixth-place finish is particularly significant given the strength of the field. Montfort finished behind athletes representing Russia, Spain, China, Italy and Japan — countries with long-established traditions in artistic swimming and a history of success at World Championships and Olympic Games.
For Malta, a small nation continuing to develop its presence in the sport, having an athlete finish sixth at a World Junior Championships represents a significant milestone.
