Four-star hotels remained by far the most popular form of collective tourist accommodation in Malta during the second quarter of 2026, accounting for 48.2% of all guest nights, according to the latest figures published by the National Statistics Office.
Between April and June, 857,857 guests stayed in hotels and other collective accommodation establishments, an increase of 12.7% compared with the same quarter last year. Total nights spent increased by 9% to 3.61 million.
Four-star hotels also registered the largest number of guests, with 363,173 guests during the quarter. Three-star hotels followed with 227,837 guests, while five-star hotels accommodated 143,885 guests. Four-star and three-star hotels registered the largest increases in absolute guest numbers compared with last year.
The figures indicate that Malta’s substantial expansion in private short-let accommodation has not displaced the traditional hotel sector, with four-star hotels continuing to absorb a particularly large share of tourists staying in collective accommodation.
Hotels keep dominating the tourist accommodation market taking up to 64.7% of the share of all tourist accommodations with 4-star hotels dominating the sector.
