Hermes Corporation Limited, partner of the project MOVE ON 2027: Skills and Human Capital Mobility in the Italy-Malta Cross-Border Area (CUP LP G75H2400015007), is pleased to announce the completion of the project’s training phase and the launch of a new stage focused on cross-border mobility, practical learning and stakeholder engagement.
Implemented under the INTERREG VI-A Italy-Malta Programme 2021–2027, MOVE-ON 2027 aims to strengthen skills development, enhance employability and promote cross-border mobility opportunities for young people and professionals across the Italy-Malta cooperation area.
The project combines training pathways, mobility experiences and multi-stakeholder cooperation to support the development of human capital and strengthen connections between the two territories.
From training to practical experience
Over recent months, participants selected through the project’s public calls have taken part in dedicated training activities designed to strengthen their knowledge and skills and prepare them for new and future professional opportunities.
The training phase represents an important first step in the MOVE-ON 2027 pathway. Participants are now moving from learning towards practical and international experience, putting their knowledge into context through direct contact with organisations, professionals and institutions in the cross-border cooperation area.
The mobility activities will take place between 20 September and 20 October, involving an exchange between 55 Sicilian candidates and 14 Maltese candidates.
For the young participants, the mobility experience will provide an opportunity to discover the Maltese and Sicilian professional and training environments, meet local organisations and explore practical examples connected to innovation, skills development, entrepreneurship, digital and green transition, and other areas relevant to labour-market development.
For professionals, the mobility activities will provide opportunities for peer learning, networking and the exchange of good practices, with particular attention to innovation, EU-funded projects, skills development and cross-border cooperation.
Malta as a learning and cooperation environment
The mobility activities will bring Sicilian participants into contact with organisations and professionals working across different sectors of the Maltese ecosystem. Meanwhile, Maltese participants will carry out their mobility in Sicily.
Through study visits, presentations, practical activities and opportunities for discussion, beneficiaries will have the chance to gain a first-hand understanding of how local organisations respond to emerging skills needs and contribute to innovation, employment and sustainable development.
The activities are designed not only to provide participants with new knowledge, but also to encourage networking and the creation of connections between people and organisations from Malta and Sicily.
This practical dimension is central to MOVE-ON 2027, transforming the skills acquired through the training pathways into opportunities for direct exchange and cross-border learning.
From beneficiaries to a wider stakeholder community
In November, MOVE-ON 2027 will launch a new phase involving organisations and institutions active in skills, employment, education, innovation and territorial development.
A series of promotional and networking events will bring together key stakeholders to discuss challenges and opportunities for human capital development in the cross-border area and to encourage their adherence to the Memorandum of Understanding.
A total of eight events will be organised — four in Sicily and four in Malta — involving policymakers, such as ESF+/ERDF Managing Authorities, education and training providers, and representatives of the business community.
The programme will also include two cross-border focus groups with participants, as well as two local focus groups, one in Sicily and one in Malta, involving around 20 representatives of policymakers and key stakeholders.
In addition, a cross-border focus group will bring together policymakers and strategic actors from the cooperation area to connect project insights with wider territorial priorities.
Strengthening cooperation between Sicily and Malta
With the completion of the training phase and the beginning of the mobility activities, MOVE-ON 2027 is entering a crucial stage in which learning, mobility and cooperation come together.
The project seeks to demonstrate that investing in human capital requires not only the development of individual skills, but also stronger connections between people, organisations, institutions and territories.
Through its combination of training, cross-border mobility and stakeholder dialogue, MOVE-ON 2027 contributes to creating new opportunities for knowledge exchange and cooperation between Sicily and Malta, while supporting a more connected and skilled cross-border area.
