Aaron Busuttil and Chris Peplow continued their outstanding run at the European Snooker Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria, by winning both their quarter-final and semi-final without dropping a frame to book Malta’s place in the Menโs Team final.
The Malta 1 duo have been in exceptional form throughout the competition and have now won all five of their matches without conceding a single frame.
Their success also means Malta will contest the final of the Menโs Team Championship for the third successive year, having finished runners-up in each of the previous two editions.
Busuttil and Peplow themselves reached the final in Portugal two years ago, while Philip Ciantar and Isaac Borg represented Malta in last year’s final in Albania. On both occasions, Ukraine denied Malta the title.
Busuttil and Peplow began Wednesday’s action with a convincing 3-0 quarter-final victory over Poland 2, represented by Michaล Kotiuk and Jakub Chromy.
The Maltese pair took the three frames 82-44, 69-18 and 54-35 to continue their perfect record and secure a place in the last four.
They were equally dominant in the afternoon semi-final against Germany 1’s Alexander Widau and Simon Lichtenberg.
Malta raced through the encounter without conceding a frame, winning 60-2, 85-49 and 76-16 to seal their place in the final.
Busuttil and Peplow will now attempt to go one step further and claim the European title when they face Poland 1, represented by Tomasz Skalski and Paweล Rogoza, in Thursday’s final at 9am.
Five Maltese players in 6 Reds competition
The conclusion of the team events will be followed by the final phase of the European Snooker Championships, featuring the 6 Reds and Shoot Out competitions.
A total of 76 players have registered for the 6 Reds competition, which will run from Thursday until Sunday.
Malta will be represented by five players โ Busuttil, Peplow, Alex Borg, Joseph Casha and his son Caiden Casha.
