The annual inflation in Malta in August went down to 2% from 2.1% in July as measured by the HICP with the twelve-month moving average at 2.3% according to the latest NSO release. Restaurants, food and accommodation kept pushing inflation higher but energy inflation remained low keeping Malta’s rate well below the Euro average of 3.2%.
Information and communication services is the only item listed which is deflationary.
Malta’s inflation rate has gone higher due to the impact of higher oil prices across various industries which have pushed global prices higher. Prices of local industry production are also feeling the pinch and going higher.
