French President Emmanuel Macron announced on French TV that France will be deploying air-defences in Saudi Arabia to defend the East-West Yanbu pipeline. The pipeline was bombed by the Houthis disrupting Saudi Arabian oil exports and kicking up oil above $100 as a result.
French troops will also potentially be deployed as the French President said that the pipeline carries more than 5 million barrels of oil daily and is essential after it served to re-rout exports from the Strait of Hormuz.
Asked whether oil prices will remain high for longer, Macron said that if tensions decrease, oil prices will fall down quickly.
During the interview President Macron denied an El Mundo report that the CIA informed the French services of an impending Russian attack against France, but also said that Russia could attack France with a drone targeting key airports as it escalates its actions against Europe. He said that Russia is also ramping up efforts at mobilisation as he stressed that Russia sees Europe as part of its “Ukrainian depth”, or rather, as an extension of the ground in its war in Ukraine.
