Doing “business” with Yorgen Fenech (as a government executive)

It should be made clear that the Executive Chairman of the Planning Authority, Johann Buttigieg, despite his claims and lies, is not a businessman: he is a huckster and a corrupt government official who has favoured his friends and associates in planning processes, potentially in exchange for bribes.

Johann Buttigieg’s wealth should be investigated because it is there that one could establish the extent of any bribes and gifts he may have received in exchange for favours. One of the most startling suspected cases of corruption involving Johann Buttigieg is his approval of the aquarium project linked to his close friend Adrian Buttigieg.

But there is more than that. Times of Malta reported that Johann Buttigieg introduced Adrian Buttigieg to Yorgen Fenech in 2019 during a meeting concerning a potential investment in Manoel Island. Basically, Johann Buttigieg was facilitating business for his friends and associates — in this case between his friend Adrian and Yorgen Fenech — over business deals through his government role, something that is at face-value irregular and potentially corrupt.

So there is enough prima facie evidence to investigate Johann Buttigieg over corruption, and it is evident that he is currently being protected — most probably by the Prime Minister. Johann Buttigieg can also get back at the Prime Minister by exposing the Prime Minister’s past corruption as a consultant to the Planning Authority.

The meeting over Manoel Island between Adrian Buttigieg and Yorgen Fenech was, however, not the only meeting between the two. There were more meetings, and this was because Johann Buttigieg tried to enter into corrupt deals with Yorgen Fenech through his long-time friend. Johann Buttigieg should disclose all these meetings and all the meetings he had with Yorgen Fenech.

The chat with Yorgen Fenech came to light because of the court proceedings. Imagine how many other chats could potentially exist. And with all the dubious decisions that the Planning Authority has taken over the years, would anyone in his right senses and without blinkers be blamed for believing that the PA is a corrupt institution which has the interest of the few wealthly developers as opposed to the national interest?

The PA not only “has the interest of the few wealthy developers”, it has the interest, indirectly, of the Labour Party and some of its politicians who no doubt benefit financially from those corrupt wealthy developers. Did Robert Abela get rich through honest toil?
