I am very glad that the Finance Minister is cracking jokes about chicken analogies with a government propagandist on the public broadcaster.
This should give us an extraordinary and unique opportunity to have a deeper discussion on the fiscal dicipline that the Finance Minister purports to espouse.
We are preparing a Freedom of Information Request to the Finance Minister requesting details and explanations for all the public funds provided to Saviour Balzan and his companies since the year 2020.
The Finance Minister should explain how his fiscal discipline includes market manipulation, and the strangling of small and independent media outlets with very heavy anti-competitive behaviour.
We are the only local press outlet doing macroeconomics. Despite our niche, and our expertise, we don’t have the opportunity to interview the Finance Minister on the public broadcaster : an opportunity handed only to specific government propagandists.
The Finance Minister should explain how his distribution of funds has helped in this preference and the granting of extraordinary privileges to particular individuals and press outlets.
Saviour Balzan has no business discussing public finances with the Finance Minister on the public broadcaster. Not only is he a fully-paid government propagandist whose media companies were at one point owned by Keith Schembri, Saviour Balzan is also totally incompetent on the subject at hand.
At one point Balzan even told the Finance Minister that Malta’s economy is depending on construction. The Finance Minister disagreed because the construction industry only makes 5% of the GDP in terms of economic sectors and this isn’t the kind of shallow and banal discourse that we should be having with the Finance Minister.
I’m currently in the process of changing my email of government ID account because we can only make an FOI request if we use a government ID. Once this is done we will be publishing the document.
