Malta Women’s Under-17 national team coach Wayne Attard has named a 20-player squad for the upcoming UEFA Women’s Under-17 Championship qualifiers against Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Both matches will be played at the Centenary Stadium in Ta’ Qali, giving the young Maltese players the opportunity to compete on home soil against international opposition.
Malta will open their commitments against Serbia on Thursday, October 29, with kick-off scheduled for 12.30pm.
The second encounter will take place on Wednesday, November 4, when Malta face Bosnia and Herzegovina, also at 12.30pm.
The two fixtures will provide Attard and his technical staff with an opportunity to assess the team’s development and competitiveness against European opposition.
The squad features players representing several Maltese clubs, including Hibernians, Valletta, Birkirkara, Mġarr and Żabbar St Patrick, alongside two players based overseas.
Midfielder Ivy Rose Biag, who plays for Nepean FC in Australia, has been included in the selection, together with Sara Anneloes Shaladi, who represents SGS Essen-Schönebeck in Germany.
Hibernians have five representatives in the squad, while Valletta and Mġarr Siġġiewi also provide a strong contingent of players.
Attard has selected two goalkeepers, seven defenders, eight midfielders and three forwards for the upcoming international commitments.
The qualifying matches represent another important stage in the development of Malta’s young female footballers, who will be looking to gain valuable international experience while attempting to secure positive results.
With both encounters being staged at the Centenary Stadium, the Maltese team will also have the advantage of familiar surroundings as they prepare to face Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
