The only reason why criminal lawyers in our society are still highly valued and respected, including as carriers of political and legal wisdom, is because our society is still feudally backward, and ignorance and illiteracy enable society to value cruelty and mediocrity more easily.
This is also why Franco Debono has Labour Party supporters who listen to what he has to say: they like him because he is a Nationalist reject who has turned his guns against his own party, so he can say whatever gibberish comes to his mind and many Labour Party supporters will applaud him.
Franco Debono has also accumulated a reputation for rude and visceral behaviour in Court. I’m glad that someone is outing him because the Courts have been very dismissive of Prosecutors lately, while criminal lawyers like Franco Debono have consistently been allowed to behave inappropriately in Court.
The case being referred to by the woman in the comment below has been reported on by the Times of Malta. It involves a woman who was hit by a car driven recklessly by a man at 110 km/h in a bus lane. The accused is also a drug addict. The Court sentenced the man twice, but mistakes in the sentencing have caused the case to be restarted twice. This is the third time the case has been ongoing.
