Update:
Police have confirmed that the victim in this afternoon’s incident at Ramla Bay, Gozo, was a 43-year-old Polish man who got into difficulty while swimming.
The emergency was reported at around 1:30 p.m., and the man was given first aid at the scene by lifeguards from the Emergency Response and Rescue Corps (ERRC) and a medical team from the Gozo General Hospital. Unfortunately, he was certified dead a short time later.
Magistrate Brigitte Sultana has been informed of the case and has launched a magisterial inquiry, while police investigations are ongoing.

Swimmer dies after incident at Ramla Bay
A man lost his life this afternoon after encountering difficulties while swimming at Ramla Bay in Gozo, police have confirmed.
The emergency was reported at around 1 p.m. Responders administered medical assistance at the scene, but the man was later declared dead.
This fatality is the 15th water-related death recorded in the Maltese Islands this year, coming just days after a German diver died following an incident in Dwejra.
Police investigations are under way.
