Can criminal suspects become government lawyers?

Justyne Caruana was fired from her post as Minister of Education and was supposed to be under police investigation under the Standards Commissioner’s recommendations. Instead, she was given a job as a government lawyer. On top of that, The Shift News reports that Justyne Caruana also received the standard ministerial termination benefit of €30,000.

Of course, there is impunity in Malta if the corrupt are rewarded and the weak are trampled upon. And every day the government set new precedents for rule of law: this time criminal suspects have become liable for government jobs as lawyers.

Truly a rent-seekers paradise.
