Criminal organisations need facades and PR and that’s what Ramona Attard is all about

Criminal organisations in politics need facades, narratives and PR to sustain their image and narrative and the President of the Labour Party, Ramona Attard is all about that. Supposedly, according to the statute of the party, the President’s role is to administer and chair the party’s annual conference, a role previously held by the secretary-general and now defunct. Joseph Muscat abolished the secretary-general role and replaced it with a CEO and a President to distribute power in the party between them rather than having one powerful role.

Ramona Attard like many government hacks started from the Labour Party’s propaganda machine at ONE and was then given a government role as soon Labour entered office in 2013. Having failed her exams in university multiple times, year after year, she eventually graduated with her law degree in 2017, after she had already experienced several roles in government, one of which was with the infamous corrupt oil trader Emmanuel Mallia. Today, as President of the Labour Party she is more focused on the Labour Party’s PR and image rather than on its structures and committees. The committees of the Labour Party are in total shambles with most of the local committees used as platforms by grifters who contest the local council elections, while the other Party’s specific committees are mostly used to cheerlead the Dear Leader. The Labour Party’s structure is insignificant next to the will of the leader of the Party and indeed, the Party only views them as money-making machines for the regular money marathons.

There is no discussion about anything in the Party, and since the Party has made and still does an example out of me, the message for many in the Party is clear-cut: dissent, criticism and open mind won’t be tolerated. It’s much worse than when Joseph Muscat used to be the leader because he used to be less paranoid and less controlling of the Party than Robert and that gave many an incentive to be more active within its structures.

So, when Ramona Attard goes on record to defend Rosianne Cutajar whilst accusing me of breaching her privacy, she is doing so out of her preconditioned script. She knows what she needs to say and she doesn’t need to be told by anyone from the Party how to retort to a question about Rosianne Cutajar because the pre-defined script is that the Labour Party has to defend Joseph Muscat’s extended criminal organization so as not to alienate his supporters, even if this defense goes against the national interest. Robert Abela made a very logical choice when he decided to save Joseph Muscat: he assumed that this was better for the Party because most of its supporters didn’t want to see Muscat go to jail. And Robert also figured out that it was better to alienate and exclude people like me than to risk alienating Muscat’s supporters. It’s all very cynical. This is history.

Today, Ramona Attard hasn’t had enough of pigging out on government contracts. She has also become a lobbyist for Azzopardi Fisheries, the tuna magnate, and is also representing the G?ira petrol station owner who wants to encroach on a public garden against the wishes of the local council. I would say she is a perfect stereotype of the Labour Party official today: cynical, amoral, immoral, pigging out on government contracts whilst lobbying for big business, defending criminals and all the while her role in the Party is in tatters. They have no principles, of course, other than to feed themselves. They are like animals, really, and will do and say anything that will lead them to acquire more resources and power.
