The Russian oligarch and Maltese passport holder Konstantin Ishkanov has been funding along with the Maltese government various cultural events in Malta at the same time Russia is conducting a war on Ukraine and on its citizens. Incredibly, some of these events are also being organised with the University of Malta.
The Malta Gay Rights Movement has a problem with Israeli singers participating in their government-sponsored pinkwashing events but apparently has no problem with Russian oligarchs living comfortably in our country and sponsoring their own cultural events.
The number of Ukrainian casualties in Russia’s war against it is higher than the total number of Palestinians killed by Israel since Israel’s inception. Now, to be clear this is not about supporting Israel, but clearly, antisemitism and racism are the bigger motivators in the criticism of Israel, when this criticism is not consistent with the relationships and positions you hold back home.
