Top China experts are indicating that Xi Jinping’s moves to tighten his grip over his Party are part of a wider levelling up of authoritarianism in the Chinese political and economic model. China’s opening-up process started by Deng Xiaoping is now being rolled back and experts are saying that China’s steadfast route in this course may remain on a long-term basis.
The gross error of judgment by Macron and Scholtz to assume that engagement would make China’s foreign policy more diplomatic can’t be even more evident. Not to mention the gross error of judgment in economic foresight by failing to see China’s imminent economic downturn and India’s slow ascent happening in real time.
Interesting times indeed – but not for the Chinese who are turning to more authoritarianism as they risk losing their previous economic power and standing.
