The ongoing siege of Gaza

Up to 900 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza already by Israeli bombings while the US is putting pressure on Israel and Egypt to allow the opening of the Rafah crossing. Israel has blockaded Gaza completely and its defence officials are making statements that the IDF may soon invade Gaza. The Israeli government will have no consideration for Palestinian lives as it retaliates with vengeful intent and doing so would consist perpetrating willing war crimes.

The EU is completely absent in its advocacy for Gazan refugees effectively being hypocritical after its leaders showed reluctance to effect measures of collective punishments on the Russian population. US special forces have been stationed in Greece potentially to be deployed in Gaza for hostage-rescue operations of American citizens, so indirectly Europe is already contributing to Israel’s defence. Europe should do its part and step up for Gazan refugees especially because there is no one to speak for them – not even their Arab neighbours. Egypt has never shown any enthusiasm about the opening of the Rafah crossing because it doesn’t want to host additional Palestinian refugees.
