After successfully establishing a book-publishing brand with a stock that generates sufficient income to ensure our survival, we at Dar Camilleri are now in the second phase of our buildup process, gradually moving into the commercial publishing space. Securing our place in the book publishing business has been essential for us to establish a lifeline. All of our publications have been best-sellers, and to this day, we continue to dominate the local best-selling lists. We will build upon our past and current successes to expand and enhance our book publishing activities.
Now, we are in the phase of focusing on making our journalistic, investigative, and news operations profitable. We intend to attract commercial clients and advertisers, allowing us to hire content creators and investigative reporters, re-brand our journalism website, and expand our investigations. As you may know, currently, the website’s content is mostly edited and created by myself. Dar Camilleri employs one person who is paid at a minimum rate of 10 per hour to take care of our sales and general operations. Our intention is to maintain this hourly rate as the minimum benchmark for our employees, which is significantly higher than the starting pay of 7 per hour in many other government-subsidised newsrooms. We feel compelled to mention this because many local media outlets are fully funded by the government. The fact that the press industry is becoming increasingly dependent on government subsidies and advertising to survive distorts the free market and creates a significant barrier to entry for new participants like us who are establishing businesses in the publishing and news industry.
For these reasons, we are compelled to seek participation and solicit advertisements and subsidies from government departments and entities to build our revenue streams and hire skilled personnel. Ideally, we would prefer a situation in which the press receives no funding from the state or government. However, given current market conditions, we cannot abstain from soliciting advertisements from the largest advertiser in our local market and we intend to do so by conserving our independence and editorial line. We intend to expand by publishing more investigative journalism and deep analysis of important topics and events – we do not intend to become just another news site seeking viral stories. We intend to remain an investigative outlet, hire the best people, and produce high-quality analytical content, and we are not interested in getting millions of clicks just by publishing news, and viral stories that everyone else is already publishing. We want to stay and go at constantly higher levels. This is a difficult task to undertake, but our goals are clear and unwavering.
We are also offering our publishing, marketing, and advertising services to the private industry and have already achieved several positive and tangible results in the private sector. We intend to continue building on our small successes.
Our skills, network, and resources are extensive, and we can offer various services in the commercial and publishing sectors. We are also making ourselves available to conduct research and investigations for our private clients.
You can view our list of services here, but we are more than happy to offer tailor-made solutions and products. Please get in touch with our operations and sales executive at sales@darcamilleri.com.
We are also seeking creditors and financiers who can support our business activities with commercial loans or direct investments. Please contact me personally if you are that kind of person at markcamilleri@autistici.org.
As always, we would like to conclude this note by thanking our readers and loyal customers, who are our lifeblood. Without them, nothing could have been achieved.
