No gains, lots of pain

As the Labour Party loses support, PN is failing to make any gains and this failure is pushing PN and its leader Bernard Grech into the inevitable discussion about what to do next. Bernard Grech is genuinely worried about this performance and the Party’s fate, and he is willing to resign if a new leader comes in who can keep the party in one piece.

Roberta Metsola may very well have another term as President of the European Parliament so there are no plans for her to take the PN leadership. Although Bernard Grech prefers to resign in favour of someone else who could bring the PN better results, this candidate is nowhere to be found. Some PN stalwarts want Claudio Grech to come back but so far, Grech has refused to entertain such a request.

Both Labour and PN are currently going through a serious leadership crisis.

If as you say Bernard Grech is willing to resign if a new leader comes in who can keep the party in one piece, I’d start respecting him more.

    Potential Leaders:

Roberta Metsola: Very similar to Busuttil, can’t see her succeed in the local jungle.
Adrian Delia: I was one of Delia v1.0’s biggest critics but I think that Delia v2.0 is the party’s best option. Besides being very eloquent, he is now also more experienced and has learned how to build bridges instead of breaking them.
Mark Anthony Sammut: Smart, promising, and one who can take a stand.
Alex Borg: Certainly has the ambition. I personally despise his hate for Repubblika and his proximity to Portelli.
Darren Carabott: Could be the dark horse. Probably needs to gain more experience.

    1. Good Analysis. Despite that I have never accepted that Adrian Delia should have been removed, I do not agree that he will lead the party again but he will be a fitting Deputy Leader. My preference is Paula Mifsud Bonnici. She is smart and already held senior positions in the party.

Darren Carabott should have already attacked the budget from an economist perspective and not recycle what BG said in his reaction. I expect DC to be at the same level of previous Finance Ministers and should have in hand figures of the economy’s performance and start offering alternatives in figures.
