The highly respected judge Aaron Bugeja, who presided over the Egrant inquiry, has been transferred from the criminal court to the family court. This move is very strange in the context of the recent statements by the Chief Justice, arguing, rightfully so, that the government is keeping the judiciary short of resources. Judge Bugeja’s transfer is a blow to the criminal court because it is losing one of its most capable judges contributing to the further dysfunction of the judiciary itself.
The Nationalist Party is also calling on the Justice Minister Jonathan Attard to resign over the crisis at the courts.
