We have submitted a request to the Auditor General to provide us with a list of government funding provided to media houses during the past four years

We do what we do with great passion. We take our work very seriously as we try to constantly improve ourselves and our products with the limited resources that we have.

Following the article published yesterday on Saviour Balzan and his media practices, we have submitted a request to the office of the Auditor General to provide us with a list of government funding to all media houses in the past four years. We strongly believe that government subsidies through advertising, PR, and marketing contracts are distorting the local market of the press industry by creating precarious jobs, making certain media-house owners rich, and producing as a result low-quality journalism with some media houses even serving as outright propaganda tools for the government. We also strongly believe that we are in a legal position to request court intervention for the suspension of government funding to the press industry on the basis of unfair market practices.

We will be pursuing this legal policy as we go forward.

    How about all sort if advertising such as on youtube which is only government propoganda!

      Because we are not a social media platform so we don’t have a direct interest in that. However, we do have a direct interest in funding to mdia houses. Having said that, most of the goverment funding for the press industry is intended as direct support because actually, spending money on social media adverts is much more efficient for the government than paying for adverts on the Times or MaltaToday. I know this very well because I was a government executive and used to spend advertising budgets. I used to spend adverts on Times, MaltaToday and other independent media mostly just to support the local press because effectively, we used to get much more return when spending on ads on social media.
