Mehdi Hasan of AlJazeera parrots the Russian myth of the Ukrainian 2022 peace deal

As France and Germany capitulate to Russia, the anti-Western pundits are already parroting Russia’s myth that Ukraine was about to sign a peace deal in 2022, but it was forced to back out of it by the evil US and warmongering Zelensky. Mehdi Hassan of AlJazeera is angrily asking, if they want Ukraine to capitulate, why did they force it to fight in the first place?

There never was a peace deal and Ukraine never agreed to have its land annexed by Russia for a peace deal – this is a myth and a Russian lie – not in 2022, nor in 2021, and not even now.

Now, Germany and France want to abandon the war effort for Ukraine, but this was always their consistent position – they never wanted this war, they always wanted Ukraine to capitulate and they have always made sure that their reluctant contribution to Ukraine was seen by Russia as their mere theatrical and symbolic participation in the war effort of their Western allies.

Instead, if France and Germany wish to capitulate, they should take a step back from the war and their overall European leadership roles. Then they should allow Eastern Europeans to take the lead in Europe when it comes to supporting Ukraine, while France and Germany drop all their objections to Ukraine receiving heavy weaponry and warplanes. In that way, Scholz and Macron can happily focus more on domestic politics and successfully remove any fears that Russia is going to nuke them.

  1. France and Germany have no choice. Ukraine lost too many men. You can send all the ammunition, tanks, planes, etc – there are no trained troops to use them. Ukraine lost and it will not be long before the army totally collapses.
Don’t take my word for it look up Colonel Macgregor who is a competent retired US military who was stationed in Nato in Poland. He explains it better than I can.

  2. Exactly. They should be fully reassured that if Russia nukes Poland the radioactivity will stop at the border. Brilliant! However, unfortunately, one cannot claim the same theory holds for the more porous Ukrainian border, as one might recall Chernobyl. Back to the drawing board, it seems. Even from the point of view of those who would benefit the most from your proposal, the sellers of such ” heavy weaponry and warplanes”, there is a point after which the decrease in their customer base overpowers the increase in sales that triggered it.
