Is Magistrate Donatella Frendo Dimech the unluckiest member of the judiciary? Certainly, she appears to be the victim of a series of unexpected coincidences, with the latest being the loss of Keith Schembri’s phone in her own chamber at the courts, unless she is totally corrupt. The list of her indecent behaviour is endless apart from having had an improper and direct communication line with Prime Minister Robert Abela via WhatsApp.
The actions of this magistrate have reached a point of total banality, where she claims to find missing pieces of evidence in her Chamber after fifteen minutes of searching in files that aren’t even present in her own Chamber. Keith Schembri is now using the excuse of the misplaced phone to claim a miscarriage of justice. Coincidentally, after the phone was found, Yorgen Fenech’s lawyer Charles Mercieca filed a request to use Keith Schembri’s phone as evidence in Yorgen Fenech’s case. Coincidentally, Magistrate Donatella Frendo Dimech is known to have been very conversant with Charles Mercieca in the corridors of the law courts on various occasions, but then again, she regularly converses with various other criminal lawyers in the corridors of the courts including with Franco Debono and Joe Giglio – both of them have cases in her court.
I don’t think there has ever been a Magistrate recently who is making such a consistent display of failing to be seen as delivering justice. Most importantly, I don’t understand how the magistrate could get away with providing false information and saying that the mobile phone was found in a file that wasn’t even in her Chamber. Shouldn’t the police be able to confirm this version?
The Magistrate has written a letter to the Minister for Justice replete with accusations and grandstanding about the importance of taking procedures seriously. Yet, she is untrustworthy and probably a liar too. What else should be known about this incident?
Undoubtedly, Keith Schembri’s phone has a lot of sensitive information that may implicate many people in government and the Labour Party in serious wrongdoing. His phone also has conversations that can deeply embarrass the Prime Minister himself.
Magistrate Donatella Frendo Dimech should have been fired the moment it was known that she was privately conversing with the Prime Minister on WhatsApp. I would have expected the Opposition in Parliament to produce a motion of impeachment about this in Parliament. Where’s the Nationalist Party in this, really, aren’t they supposed to be fighting for the preservation (of what we have left) of our rule of law? The longer Donatella Frendo Dimech is allowed to play her very irregular and potentially corrupt role as Queen-Judge-Socialite in the courts, the more justice will be perverted.
