The new OHSA CEO, Josianne Cutajar is fulfilling her duties on a part-time basis, barely being at her office and doing very little at all. She has briefed her senior managers telling them that she will “allow them to do all the work” since she is not qualified in the field. She is also allowed to exercise her private practice, basically being given permission from the government to fulfill her CEO role on a part-time basis.
I am also told that several OHSA employees are planning to leave for the private industry having been tired of working for a totally dysfunctional organisation with very low salaries.
The OHSA is responsible for enforcing safety regulations in the workforce and during the past few years, Malta’s rate and number of workplace fatalities have increased. The government’s intention to keep the OHSA and the Building Construction Authority dysfunctional is very blatant and transparent.
