Professor Stelios Bekiros sent a letter to the Minister of Education alleging that the University of Malta is embezzling EU Funds

Professor Stelios Bekiros joined the Faculty of Economics, Management & Accountancy at the University of Malta in 2021. He is an experienced academic having worked at various universities and published hundreds of papers, so it seems reasonable that the University of Malta made him a Chair Full Professor.

It didn’t take very long for the foreign academic to become flustered at local practices. He has sent a letter to the Minister for Education, Clifton Grima, alleging that the University of Malta is embezzling EU funds and appointing friends of the rector to specialised and technical posts for EU projects instead of appointing the required skilled and technical specialists. The professor seems to be making the point that the rector and his friends are abusing EU funds to reward friends and pay for unrelated items that have nothing to do with the EU-funded project.

The professor is alleging he has ample evidence to prove his case, but the rector has ordered the professor not to speak to the administrative officers of the university.
