The money laundering can now resume

I don’t think that Angelo Gafa can continue to excel in his corrupt and clownish behaviour, but then again, I was always naive and never had a criminal mind. I suspect that he rarely reads the papers, has barely any meaningful life experience, and is completely detached from people around him because if else, how can he pull a straight face and believe, that people will believe him when he says that he is doing his job?

When Malta was grey-listed by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), the police suddenly ramped up their investigations on money laundering and inundated the courts with new cases. The police made a sincere effort to bring to justice a host of money-laundering offenders,  including some foreign companies and individuals and Maltese individuals. No effort was made to address money laundering activities by organised crime or politicians, but the police’s effort to bring new cases to court was visually apparent.

Now, a year after Malta has been removed from the FATF’s grey-list, new money laundering cases have all dried up and in fact, no new cases are being brought to court.

Apparently, according to Police Commissioner Angelo Gafa, the money laundering can now resume as the Financial Crimes Investigative Department is mostly and exclusively focused on bringing to justice the poor people who defrauded the state for social benefits along with the doctor who allegedly facilitated their benefits. Yet, Angelo Gafa wants us to believe that the way he works and conducts investigations has got nothing to do with the priorities of the Labour government.

I hope that Angelo Gafa doesn’t mind if I celebrate him accordingly.
