I’m very glad Franco Debono replied to my article about him, so hopefully this message comes across strongly. Despite the particular masochistic comments that Franco Debono chose to quote from me, I have matured enough to understand the importance and value of conducting politics, fighting for power with a clear and determined cause, and having specific goals, rather than pursuing power solely for its own sake. Even being the lesser evil is not enough. How long do we have to repeat this conversation after our experience with Joseph Muscat?
Labour may as well remain in power if its alternative is more of the same, and despite the PN being much better than Labour in moral principles and essence it still can’t project a winning and convincing narrative. We all agree that we need a new progressive force in politics that will rebuild our country but this is not going to going to come from a criminal lawyer. I’ve also learned by experience and maturity that politics to be done right should ideally be conducted by individuals who are financially independent and who have an immeasurable amount of intellectual and emotional intelligence. The character of a criminal lawyer is completely different. We can be cynical and say that Malta needs just another “?axxej” to rule the jungle block, but we are never going to get better with this kind of cynicism.
Franco Debono would have been more honorable if he had contributed to the rebuilding of our country by applying his skills to this cause instead of embarking on a vanity trip to become the PN party leader. I’m sure that if he digs deep into his consciousness he could find many ways in which he could be useful and more impactful.
