Christian Borg, the well-known cocaine dealer and money-laundering client of Prime Minister Robert Abela is probably Malta’s most protected hardened criminal. Christian Borg can move and trade his assets and engage in whatever financial activity he likes even when the police themselves know that they can take him to court and rip him to shreds. The police have a case against him that so far has been prevented from proceeding to court by the Attorney General herself with the excuse of many legal technicalities. While the Attorney General blocks a case against Christian Borg from seeing the light of day, the government is rushing further to his aid by removing the prosecutor’s ability to freeze all assets of a suspected criminal.
Meanwhile, Jason Azzopardi filed a request for a magisterial inquiry on Christian Borg’s illegal financial activities and this request has been adhered to. Now, Angelo Gafa has a brilliant excuse by which to postpone the work of his subordinates on Christian Borg’s case with the stupid excuse “not to interfere with the magistrate’s investigation”. Christian Borg can even continue his illegal activities with the help of the Prime Minister’s brother-in-law. What a very nice justice system. The justice system is being used like a bureaucratic game to enable and protect organised criminals.
