Here’s another criminal that Angelo Gafa should have indicted to court according to his own standards

In hindsight, it is obvious to me that the only reason why Police Commissioner Angelo Gafa would feel the need to visit the offices of the not-so-serious PR/media organization Lovin Malta just to tell the general public with a curt statement that he is applying the law to everyone without fear or favor is that he isn’t. Compare his very odd behaviour, and the even odder behaviour of Attorney General Victoria Buttigieg, with that of a prosecutor who holds a press conference threatening criminals and staying true to his word with effective action.

Angelo Gafa is playing a very stupid game. He pretends and expects that the only way he can potentially (with emphasis on the ‘potentially’) arraign and indict the Labour Party’s untouchables is if he is provided with explicit orders by an inquiring magistrate who gives him a ready-made investigation that starts upon a civilian’s request. He can then present it in court and claim that he did his job.

Very nice game there. It’s as if his office has been turned into a colonial public office issuing permits against paperwork that has been submitted by the colonial subjects: just tick the boxes, pass on the papers to your superiors, and hope it works.

Apparently, according to an EU directive which has also been transposed into local law, the Police in Malta also hold legal jurisdiction over crimes committed with EU Funds. One of the Labour Party’s untouchables who blatantly and publicly defrauded EU agricultural funds is Kurt Buhagiar who defrauded up to ย€212,000 in EU funds to build his own personal villa. The funds were supposed to have been used for a sheep farm.

Kurt Buhagiar is currently facing criminal charges for the involuntary manslaughter of Jean-Paul Sofia, a construction worker who was working at an illegal construction site owned by Kurt Buhagiar, which was also granted to him by the government. Kurt Buhagiar was arraigned on orders of a Magistrate after concluding an inquiry, but he was never arraigned in court for his fraud and corruption and to be arraigned on those charges, Angelo Gafa requires that someone request the courts to have a magistrate open further inquiries.
