The ICC’s prosecutor Karim Khan is holding meetings in Israel and Palestine in preparation for investigations

The International Criminal Court’s prosecutor Karim Khan is holding meetings both in Israel and Palestine in preparation for his investigations on crimes against humanity both by Hamas and the IDF. Israel does not recognise the ICC but that doesn’t mean anything because the ICC’s arrest warrants are effective irrespective whether you recognise the court or not.

The prosecutor has visited several sites where Hamas committed their massacre, met with survivors of the said massacre, and also met the head of the Palestinian Authority Mahmoud Abbas.

Investigating both sides in this conflict is the right thing to do and the EU should put all its diplomatic backing behind the ICC to effectively enforce a long-standing precedent of the rule of law in the region as guided by the conclusions of the prosecutor. Things are already looking good in this regard for the region with Bashar al-Assad being wanted for crimes by a French court – these efforts and developments can leave lasting change by restraining the human butchers in the region.
