This is more as to why the public funding to the press in Malta is made indiscriminately and according to political allegiances rather than marketing and audience statistics.
The FIAU which is supposed to be an independent state authority prefers spending money with MaltaToday and LovinMalta even spending more with them than they do with The Times of Malta which is more popular than the others. Also, note the discrepancy with other independent press such as The Malta Independent.
Both MaltaToday and Lovin Malta have been accused by this website of depending significantly or exclusively on government funding which Lovin Malta denies.
