Jesus was a Jew born in the Kingdom of Judea (Kingdom of the Jews and under Roman control) under the reign of King Herod. Christians celebrate his birth, today December 25th according to a very early Christian tradition that coincided with the Roman pagan festivals of the sun (Sol Invictus). We know that Jesus existed and was a historical figure because we have confirmation from Roman sources while the holy texts, encompassing also the unofficial ones, are used by historians to understand his cult, Jewish society, and the Christian religion that was born from it.
Irrespective of your faith and beliefs in the Christian religion, Jesus is the most historic and impactful figure in history having founded the Christian religion which continued building the fundamental values of what came to be known as the West, having built these values upon the influences of Greek philosophy (mostly Platonic)ย and the Jewish religion.
