As an editorial policy, I do not post pictures and photos of graphic violence because it only amplifies the terrorizing message of the aggressor, apart from doing injustice to the victims. However, you can read this written investigation by the New York Times which lays down in graphic detail the systematic rape and torture of Hamas gunmen on October 7th. The horrifying stories are unique and the violence against women is exceptional. It also brings memories of the torture and rape by the Janjaweed militias in Darfur.
If you can’t read the article, what happened in short on October 7th was that Hamas gunmen spent more time raping and torturing Israeli women than they did fighting the IDF. The torture and rape were banal, evil, and in many cases as painful as possible. This was terrorism in its pure and unrestrained form. There was no sense, logic, or strategic military process in the October 7th attacks: it was just men unleashing the worst horror possible on Israeli women. These reports were out as soon as these events had happened, but initially, many on the left refuted them. Hamas was celebrated as a genuine “resistance fighting organisation” and some pseudo-intellectuals and pseudo-journalists even celebrated these attacks s legitimate acts of resistance.
Hamas does not conduct war or resistance for Palestine: they have held their own people hostage for many years and used them for a war on the Jews that they will never win. They built tunnels and bunkers for themselves while they left their people to die as the IDF trashed Gaza to hunt them down. Their leader, Yahwa al Sinwar, is hiding in an underground bunker behind Israeli hostages. Meanwhile, the Hamas superiors in Cairo refuse a ceasefire as their people are left alone against an army that has no sympathy or compassion for them, and neither any regard for international law.
What’s so evil about Hamas is that they knew in advance that the IDF would react the way they did after October 7th. They knew that the IDF would harm civilians and kill them indiscriminately as they hunted them down. Hamas knew in advance that by unleashing their terrorist attack on October 7th, the price was going to be paid by their people in blood and suffering.
Anyone who thinks that Hamas should survive this war to form part of Palestinian society in the future is delusional or genuinely misinformed. It doesn’t matter nor it is relevant whether the Palestinians support them or want them to stay (many of them don’t and increasingly many Gazans want them gone). For the left, “No justice, no peace”, doesn’t seem to apply to Jews and Israelis. Those who are intelligent and sensible enough to understand the prerequisites for a long-lasting peace welcome Hamas’ end. Hamas has caused not only immeasurable suffering to their own people but have also stoked tensions and hatred worldwide. Hamas is powerful indeed: in causing terror, hatred, and destruction.
