Kurt Sansone is the chief editor of MaltaToday and also the general secretary of the Institute of Malta Journalists (Istitut tal-?urnalisti Maltin, I?M). He sent me a clarification as the MaltaToday editor on MaltaToday’s position on the proposed press reforms by the government. Kurt Sansone reiterated that MaltaToday is not supporting the government’s proposed press reforms, but instead, is backing the government’s committee proposal to introduce a reform that would give the local courts authority to dismiss any foreign SLAPP cases. You can read the committee’s counter-proposals here, however, the government’s version of the law in parliament is still the old one.
In the meantime, I would like to take the opportunity to advise Kurt Sansone to answer questions, as the general secretary of the I?M, about how he thinks it is fit and proper to forge a press alliance with the propaganda arms of the major political parties.
