Magistrate Gabriella Vella should have an armed security escort and several personal assistants

I am definitely sure that Magistrate Gabriella Vella, who is conducting the Magisterial inquiry over Joseph Msucat’s fraudulent hospitals deals, is sticking to her brief and the resources she is provided with without making any complaints and any additional demands. Humble public servants will do their job diligently without expecting anything and this is most probably the character of Magistrate Gabriella Vella who is taking a huge risk by conducting this inquiry.

Magistrate Gabriella Vella is conducting an inquiry over an ex-prime minister whose friends murdered a journalist. The current Prime Minister, Robert Abela, who has an extensive network of organised criminals behind him,ย  has recently, attacked Magistrate Gabriella Vella and positioned himself in favour of Joseph Muscat irrespective of what the conclusion of her inquiry will be. In such dire circumstances, who is really providing security for the Magistrate? The Labour Party is creating an atmosphere of antagonism and hatred against its critics, and Robert Abela is positioning himself against the judiciary. Clearly, Robert Abela is riling up his mob against the Magistrate and although this is worrying, what’s more worrying is that Robert Abela’s attacks against journalists and the judiciary are music to the ears of his hardened criminal friends.

You would expect, in such a volatile situation, that the Police would respond by providing an armed escort to the Magistrate along with several personal assistants who would do her errands and everyday shopping. Instead, the Magistrate is doing the shopping of her household by herself, effectively being at risk. Such an obvious risk factor would raise the alarm for an ordinary police force, but not for Police Commissioner Angelo Gafa, a criminal himself who is backing Robert Abela’s criminal network, protecting, abetting them, and covering up for them.

The Magistrate is not in a position to make a risk assessment of her situation – she is engrossed in her work. It’s Angelo Gafa who should be able to make this assessment and act accordingly. The fact that this Magistrate is being left to her own devices may be even intentional to put her in danger. Anyone in the security services with a sense of modicum and reason would immediately address this risk factor accordingly. In reality, the risk factor of this case is so obvious and real, that Angelo Gafa may be leaving the Magistrate without a security escort in a deliberate, conscious, and willing manner.
