The President of the European Council congratulates Azerbaijan’s dictator for a fake election

Yesterday, the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, congratulated Azerbaijan’s dictator, Ilham Aliyev for getting elected with a fake election. Aliyev got 92% of the vote in an election that he ran by himself and without any meaningful challenger. Journalists and critics were jailed before the election as Aliyev ramped up his control over the population.

It seems like yesterday was the day when world leaders went a little bit bonkers. Someone should send a memo to Charles Michel informing him that there’s so much gas available today, that we no longer need to humiliate ourselves with tinpot dictators just to buy some gas.

I mean, how the heck are you surprised when a slew of major allies to the west are dictators?
