Valerii Zaluzhnyi is the last military commander in history to have resisted the Russians after Afghanistan’s Lion of Panjshir

The Ukrainian Armed Forces Valerii Zaluzhnyi is being replaced by Colonel General Oleksandr Syrskyi who had previously commanded the defense of Kyiv, the Kharkiv offensive, and the defense for Bakhmuth. Many different reports are stating that Zaluzhnyi has been fired and he has also recently sent an article to the press in his defense where he cited a lack of support for the military due to political infighting and a lack of advanced weaponry.

Zaluzhnyi led an army that was outnumbered and outgunned against a much larger and more resourceful fighting force, yet Zaluzhnyi forfeited the chance of victory to his enemy and went on to retake lost territory including Kharkiv and Kherson. He is the last military to have successfully resisted the Russians with several victorious battles under his belt. The last military commander to have successfully defeated the Russians was Ahmad Shah Massoud of Afghanistan who was dubbed the Lion of Panjshir for preventing the Soviets from taking over the Panjshir valley. Massoud was assassinated by Al-Qaeda shortly before the September 11 attacks.
