Steve Ellul, the previous Miriam Dalli consultant, head of Project Green and now MEP candidate is not very well known to Labour Party members and supporters. He has a vague and little if no history at all of party activism and is detached from the political machine that enables Labour Party candidates to get elected with ease.
To ramp up his numbers, Steve Ellul is trying to be edgy and making use of populism – more specifically deriding Roberta Metsola on issues of European and national security and accusing her of being a warmonger.
There was a time in local politics when this kind of behaviour was considered reckless, reprehensible and grossly irresponsible and would have resulted in your censored by your party bosses. The Labour Party and the Nationalist Party have a long history of collaborating on matters of national security since the early 1990s and there exists in our politics and the golden rule that issues of national security are not trivialised in local politics in this stupid manner for cheap political points. This golden rule is no longer applicable and the Labour Party will be deceivingly using the rhetoric of Russian propaganda to attack decent politicians who seek to work in public for European common security interests.
I would have expected this kind of cheap and populist behaviour to come from the likes of Daniel Attard, but Steve Ellul seems to be as equally crass and unprincipled. A failed fund manager of an underperforming fund at Bank of Valletta earning ย40,000 a year (a ridiculous sum for a fund manager), he moved to head a public entity for ย100,000 per year only to now launch himself into politics with the expectation of winning a seat in the European Parliament. He chose to sell his integrity (if he ever had one) soon enough for the sake of votes and it’s a testament of his amoralism and opportunism.
These people should not be anywhere near power. They find no qualms in bartering national and security issues for cheap populism and quick votes. Our country is in the hands of reckless and criminal idiots.
